One of, but not the longest[edit]

At 68 minutes, Initiation very probably was the longest-ever LP in a popular-music category, but it was not the longest of all. I had an Everest LP of Mahler's 5th, also from the 1970s, that was 70 minutes. The second side alone was 42 minutes. Of course, I can't prove it since I no longer have the LP. Richard K. Yep, I know several classical LP albums that either run close to or past 70 minutes or where one side went past 35 minutes - and without any impairment in sound or dynamics. This one - the final recording of Karajan, of Bruckner's 7th - gets to around 35+31 minutes: https://www.discogs.com/Anton-Bruckner-Herbert-Von-Karajan-Wiener-Philharmoniker-Symphonie-No-7/master/513131

and there are even longer ones of Beethoven's 9th, fit onto a single LP (by splitting the slow third movement at a pause in the music). Contrary to CW, vinyl did not have an absolute time limit at around 22-25 minutes per side. 83.254.132.118 (talk) 22:31, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All valid points, but the demands of popular music make achieving the same dynamic range a particular challenge compared to classical music due to the levels required from various instruments when mixed together over a full recording as opposed to large dynamic range instances happening over a relatively brief portion of a composition. The engineer cutting the lacquer can compensate for these brief instances by dynamically adjusting the groove spacing on the fly, so to speak, and still be able to cut longer sides - a possibility made more doable with classical music.THX1136 (talk) 17:49, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Roger Powell[edit]

The claim that TR's bandmate Roger Powell made a major contribution to synth programming and playing on "Treatise" sounds likely, but it needs to be properly sourced. Also, the word "enormous" could be an overstatement. Strausszek (talk) 02:49, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
