Irish flag[edit]

Is this Irish flag appropriate, given that the team represents Northern Ireland as well as the Republic? No flag is used on the articles about the Ireland national rugby union team or the Ireland cricket team, which both likewise represent the whole island. 84.92.117.93 (talk) 23:55, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No it isn't correct, it shouldn't be used as it is misleading people to believe that the flag of the republic represents the whole of Ireland. I would remove it but I'm not sure which pat to remove from the infobox. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 18:33, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually from the FIBA website [1] it is correct, the symbol they use for Ireland is a basketball with green white and orange [2]. Not all all-island sporting bodies use different flags, true the IRFU have a flag, but they didnt use it in the last RWC [[3]] at 10 seconds and 1min15, you will see a tri-colour with the flag of Ulster. The GAA, boxing cycling and more use the tricolour, a minute spent researching removes any questions. Murry1975 (talk) 10:03, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
