Legal term split[edit]

I believe that the section in this article on the Japanese legal use of the word "shōnen" should be split into its own distinct article. I'm kind of envisioning that Shōnen will become a disambiguation page and that the new article for the legal sense of "Shōnen" will be called Shōnen (legal term), but I'm open to suggestions and improvements on the idea. -Malkinann (talk) 10:25, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was mainly thinking of getting the legal stuff out of shounen manga, as the legal uses of the word shonen have nothing to do with boys' comics. I suppose the section in shonen manga on the legal uses could be merged into this article too. -Malkinann (talk) 06:58, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The lead of the article says the term "generally refers to a typical boy, from elementary school through junior high school age." But the legal term says from elementary school to 18 years of age. Thus, should the lead say high school in place of junior high school? Or does its term in manga usually not mean high school? Flyer22 (talk) 00:16, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shōnen manga[edit]

When it comes to Japanese comics, the word shōnen isn't used to describe a genre, but demographics. It indicates nothing more than the fact that the manga in question was first serialized in a magazine for males under the age of 18.

Also, currently the article says "generally about action/fighting". I believe this to be far from truth - shōnen comics actually cover a very wide variety of genres.

Please consider this. I don't want to edit the page myself as I'm not experienced with the wiki system nor am I very fluent in English.

shonen or shōnen[edit]

I was going to chance all occurences of "shonen" to "shōnen" since the article has a lot of both spellings. I checked the history and there seems to be some disagreement on how it's supposed to be spelled in English, and I don't want to be involved in your edit war.
