Naming convention

The Chinese name is not officially accepted by Sultan Iskandar. Only Jawi and Rumi are the officially accepted scripts and Malay is the officially accepted language of Malaysia.

Addition of tourist info

Can I suggest and possibly get a concensus to remove the tourist promotional information added by Cejan?

The reasons being:

1. I recognise the writing and pictures are from local tourist promotional brochures. It thus violates copyright requirements for contribution of information/content to Wikipedia.

2. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Travel information should be moved to wikitravel.org with a link from this article to wikitravel.org's Johor Bahru page.

3. The new "Introduction" section added duplicates the actual introduction section at the top of the page to some degree. If additional introduction is required it should be integrated into existing/actual introduction section.

Origin of name?

Does anyone know the origin of the name? If it were Johor baru I could understand, but where does the 'h' come from? Is it a variant or baru (Malay, "new")? m.e. 09:25, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes. It's a variant but no longer in use. After the Malay language was standardized, only "baru" is now considered legit Malay. So, "bahru" is outdated. However, it's a place name so (officially spelt Johor Bahru), it doesn't really matter. __earth ^(Talk) 09:31, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

2nd biggest city

Is JB really the second biggest city? I thought Georgetown of Penang is?

Yes, it's true. The previous holder for 2nd largest city was Ipoh, but then surpassed by JB because JB has larger population growth rate than Ipoh. Georgetown's population rate was slightly negative in 2000 but then slightly positive several years later. Hezery99 04:29, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Why remove radio?

Following phrase removed: "Johor Bahru is also home to three radio stations. Best 104 is the country's first private radio station, Johor FM is a government-owned regional station, and FMJB, is another government-owned station covering only the city."

If you have good reason to remove it, please explain why. Ive restored the paragraph back, as it could possibly be removed by vandalism. Mr Tan (talk) 20:53, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
