Steve Jobs?[edit]

In this article, I found a claim that Steve Jobs has referenced the songs of Jonathan Mann. I have nothing against this statement, but am unable to find a verifiable source that can back it up. The only veritable reference I find that is (sort of?) relevant to this is a post on Paris Lemon (found here) where a claim has been made that Steve Jobs danced to his music. I guess that could pass. However, there's a difference between dancing to the music and referencing, quote: the "biting satire and musical versatility" of it. Perhaps we could change the article a bit to fit what we know for sure? Maybe even find other references to support the claims of other people whom have made these references? Please feel free to call me out if I'm being too nitpicky (or clumsy). I know I can do that sometimes and welcome any valuable criticism of my intrigue in this particular article. Looks like the references to Steve Jobs and other celebrities are all in the Notable Compositions section. Funcrunch (talk) 14:52, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
He also directly commented on Mann's song during the "Antennagate" conference. That's where I heard of it, at least. Can we just cite the conference? User:Triceratropes (talk)

Uhm, I see it was referenced on body of article, as per the revert that someone made of my previous CN addition. I was unaware I made this edit a long time ago and someone reverted it. Thanks, Thibbs! Meşteşugarul - U 18:06, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notability and edit warring[edit]

IP 129.67.16.1 (talk) added a notability tag to this page, and when I added additional information and removed the tag, they reverted me twice without any edit summary or discussion. They also removed my message on their talk page asking for discussion, and twice removed Jonathan Mann from a disambiguation page, again without any explanation or discussion.

I don't want to get into an edit war, but if this talk page message is removed and/or the reverts continue without any further discussion taking place, I will take this to the appropriate admin noticeboard. Funcrunch (talk) 17:14, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • That sounds reasonable to me. I'm not sure what the IP is hoping to achieve with the drive-by tagging... -Thibbs (talk) 17:47, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As the edit war has now escalated to the IP making personal attacks, and the reversions without edit summary or comment have continued, I have reported them at the admin noticeboard. Funcrunch (talk) 01:52, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Given the extensive coverage of this person in reliable sources, I oppose the notability tag. The IP editor's personal attacks against the article subject and against Funcrunch are not acceptable. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:02, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Even if there weren't enough coverage, the proper action would be to nominate the article for deletion once the template has been contested. Edit warring to maintain {{notability}} is not productive. IP editors can't complete a nomination themselves, but they can request assistance at WT:AFD (or some other appropriate forum). NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:25, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Better yet, simply explain the basis for your concerns with notability on the talk page as requested by other editors multiple times. Flagging an article for notability rather than sending it to AfD is very much in line with WP:BEFORE because it gives other editors a chance to establish notability, but it's only useful if the other editors can discern the problem. A simple explanation in talk is usually the most effective way of explaining the basis underlying a contested notability tag. See BEFORE §C.3.-Thibbs (talk) 11:30, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The IP has been blocked for one month. Thanks for weighing in everyone. Funcrunch (talk) 14:19, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Two more IPs added notability tags today without participating in discussion here, and the second one also vandalized my user page. The report on the admin noticeboard is still active, so hopefully an admin will deal with them. Funcrunch (talk) 00:54, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And yet another one... this is getting tiresome. Funcrunch (talk) 14:34, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've semi'd the article for 4 days on the basis the anon contributor is failing to justify their insistence on adding the notability tag. However, I must say I don't completely disagree with it. The sourcing could be improved, in my opinion. The NBC News source is a passing mention, and the Wall Street Journal source is merely an opinionated blog. Meanwhile the Guinness world record clearly asserts a claim of significance, but one could still argue WP:BLP1E (the one event being the fact he writes a new song every day). I'm not contesting notability, but I do recommend finding more reliable sources. Doing so might put an end to the IP disruption MusikAnimal talk 15:56, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding the semi-protection. But considering the IP's pattern of refusing to discuss or even use edit summaries, and vandalizing my user and talk page in retaliation, I doubt that adding more sources to the article would make a difference to them. Funcrunch (talk) 16:15, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree. The IP was repeatedly invited to the talk page to clarify the notability concerns but the only reaction was personal attacks and edit-warring. This really doesn't seem like a good-faith concern. Meanwhile the article clearly asserted the notability of the subject even before Funcrunch's recent additions and a modicum of research (hello Google) would have verified the claims. I know there is plenty more on the subject as well. The January 2008 issue of EGM magazine, for example, covered Mann in relation to his having serenaded Miyamoto in Japan. Perhaps a refimprove tag might have been appropriate, but the notability tag is dubious at best. -Thibbs (talk) 02:28, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discography[edit]

If anyone would like to use my Google spreadsheet, I cited this text with the link. Don't use it as a reference as I compiled it via my own personal research, but I hope some will find it as an aid in research of their own. It's simply a list of every known song composed by Mann himself (covers not included).[1] -- AlexanderHovanec (talk) 21:26, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
