Apito Dourado[edit]

I removed the reference to Apito Dourado from the first paragraph (added by user Mike Parish) for several reasons:

1. As per Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout the first paragraph of an article is supposed to be like a summary, "listing the best-known achievements of the subject". Being a part of Apito Dourado is obviously not an achievement and it's not even a major issue in his biography unless he is found guilty.

2. There is a part for Apito Dourado in the article already.

3. The Apito Dourado affair includes 171 suspects ("arguidos") and tens, if not hundreds, of alleged crimes are being investigated - of which Pinto da Costa is only a suspect in 3. Although he is one of the most famous "arguidos", saying he plays "a major part" seems a bit excessive.

Update: and yes, he has been found guilty by LPFP, but he appealed - and then there was the mess I'm sure you heard about in the next higher level (FPF) and at this point there is an appeal in civil court. All these decisions and appeals, as well as other updates connected to Apito Dourado and Apito Final, should be mentioned in the "Apito Dourado" part of the article. It is only worth mentioning in the first paragraph when the case is over and done with - and if he is found guilty at the end of it all. G51 (talk) 00:56, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Summary[edit]

"As per Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout the first paragraph of an article is supposed to be like a summary, "listing the best-known achievements of the subject"."

Should then be mentioned that he is the president of a club with most titles in the football world.

If added then it should be mentioned that he is popular in Portugal for corruption in portuguese football by fans of not only football but also from different sports like basketball, handball, hockey, etc. BenficaNNossaPaixao (talk) 14:30, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, it should not. As per Wikipedia:BLPCRIME, "A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty and convicted by a court of law.". Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa was acquitted of all acusations in a court of law, and thus mentioning them in his article's summary is inappropriate and misleading. The Apito Dourado affair and other legal issues have their own specific section within the article. G51 (talk) 15:47, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Operação Fénix (Operation Phoenix)[edit]

Operação Fénix is pretty notable and should be added to the article. SLBedit (talk) 16:16, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
