Notes on naming[edit]

Head of design team at TsIAM - К.В.Холщевниковым - transliterated as K V Kholshchevnikov. This is the most widely used transliteration in publications originating in English speaking countries and in the English language versions of Russian websites dealing with the MiG I-250 and SU-5. There are however a variety of other transliteration out there.

The name of the device is most commonly given as "VRDK" on its own. This is not satisfactory for an article name (Rolls-Royce Merlin not "Merlin", "Wright R-1820 Cyclone" not "R-1820 Cyclone", "Daimler-Benz DB 601" not DB 601 etc) and a qualifier is needed as there was more than one VRDK project at TsIAM during the 1940s. In this case the convention followed has been to put the head of the design groups name first similar to Charomskiy M-40. Link page also created for "Kholshchevnikov accelerator".

Abbreviation VRDK expanded as "Vozdushno-Reaktivniy Dopolnitelniy Kompressor" or "Jet-Propelled Auxiliary Compressor" in english. This is from the book "MiG: Fifty years of secret aircraft design" by Rostislav Apolossovitch Belyakov which is cited a few times in the text. There are some sources which give the "D' in VRDK as meaning "dvigatel" meaning "engine". It seems plausible that both variations were in use.
