Name[edit]

The official name usage is "Skender Vakuf / Kneževo".

The Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina always uses the name when mentioning or writing about the municipality. One such example can be seen in this link of the Official Web Page of Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the recent 2008 local municipality elections of Skender Vakuf / Kneževo: Official Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina referencing the name above (Skender Vakuf / Kneževo)

Another example that shows a more global view of the usage of Skender Vakuf / Kneževo is this United Nations (UN) web page mentioning Skender Vakuf / Kneževo: Official United Nations (UN) website page

Please refrain from causing a revert-war. This change has been made in order to avoid nationalism on Wikipedia, portray a fair case for all sides, and remove any POV. I have pasted the links as references citing them in the first paragraph of the article.

A fifth link that I found where the Office of High Representation (OHR), which regulates as an outside European Political Force within Bosnia and Herzegovina uses the name "Skender Vakuf / Kneževo".

Skender Vakuf is Bosniaks name, and Kneževo is Serb name in order to remove Bosniak terms, right? Matthew_hk tc 05:49, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, Skender Vakuf has association to Turkish references and meaning, while the Serbs have attempted to delete the name usage naming the town Kneževo. For example I have gone on the official website of Bosanski Novi / Novi Grad and it is unbelievable . I mean it is one thing to change the name to erase the past for political reasons, but it is a whole another (far worse) thing to change history! Several websites do that, if not most. I have changed the page to say Knezevo. That is the proper usage now. Bosniak nationalism wants to use it as Skender Vakuf. That is name of the past. I have linked the municpality's official website. Cheers. Governmental offices call it as Knezevo, not Skender Valuf. Here you can see an official website... http://www.rzs.rs.ba/Saopstenja/VitalnaStatistika/RodjeniUmrli2008.pdf Skender Valuf has long since been gone.
In some places names changes have been reversed. Foca is not called Srbinje no longer. But, Knezevo remains Knezevo. And it make sense, considering that the population there does not want the place to be called Skender Valuf. Similar things were done to many towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mrkonjic Grad used to be called Varcar Vakuf. History is not being changed at all. The wikipedia article clearly states that Knezevo was known as Skender Vakuf. Knezevo it is, Knezevo it remains. One more example. Bosanska Kostajnica was changed to Srpska Kostajnica. It was then changed back to Bosanska Kostajnica and remains offifically as Bosanska Kostajnica. The same can not be said for this municpality. (LAz17 (talk) 04:29, 13 January 2010 (UTC))[reply]
Regardless all, I have been looking to the case and, despite the joy of some and oposition of others, the town officially changed its name to Kneževo, so the article title should be "Kneževo", obviously having a "Skender Vakuf" redirect and mentioning of the recently changed name in the lede. Vandalism?[edit]

I am only placing in the article of what is true. Only serb nationalists use Kneževo. It was called that during the war, but the moment the war stopped in 1995, the name was returened to Skender Vakuf within a few years. The items that you place in there are ludacris.

With reason, or not, this [1], the city´s official website, says the oposite, and since wikipedia works with reliable external sources, and you didn´t even provided none, we must follow the official ones. Facts[edit]

By the way, I happen to be from the city of Skender Vakuf. I am a serb and I am proud of our heritage and history in this city. All the references and all the people mentioned in my articles are real. If you have any other arguements? Well... I would like to see the proof.

As a serb from this city, my judgement is not clowded and I don't want to erase history. As a person of open mind, I will not allow propaganda to erase the true history of the world.

Do you have any explanation for removing that? But anyways, the way you crippled the article shows that you are not quite familiar with how articles should look like. urbanization[edit]

Correct me if I am wrong, but urbanization got on its way in the post ww2 era, not in the era of the ottoman turks. In the turkish rule era there was very little if any urbanization. The cities and towns in the former yugoslavia started to grow in the post ww2 period. Every place in this municipality was a rural village. This are was so small that it was not its own entity until after 1953, when urbanization was well on its way. (76.29.100.8 (talk) 17:51, 18 October 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

"linguistic cleansing"[edit]

This seems to be an appropriate source for the claim that the renaming from "Skender Vakuf" to "Kneževo" was an instance of something that has at times been referred to as "linguistic cleansing". Whether it is appropriate to mention the term in the lead (or anywhere) is of course another question. If I remember correctly, I added this to the lead to appease that part of locals from the region who insisted on claiming that "Skender Vakuf" is still the official name.
