Lincoln Brigade[edit]

I was a neighbor of Larry Treat's when I was growing up in Yorktown Heights, New York--he taught me how to play chess--and the word always was that Treat had been a member of the Lincoln Brigade and had fought in Spain. When I grew somewhat older and became an associate editor of Holiday Magazine, I asked Larry to do an article for us on his experiences during the Spanish Civil War, for a special issue on Spain that we were putting together. He demurred, saying he'd rather not. He did NOT say that he had never been a member of the Lincoln Brigade, which I took as quiet affirmation of his participation. Or he could simply have been a fibber. It would be interesting if anybody had any way of proving or disproving the veracity of this rumor.173.62.11.254 (talk) 18:57, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
