Fair use rationale for Image:Life-Guards badge.jpg[edit]

Image:Life-Guards badge.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Spare Comma[edit]

2. revised combined list issued May 1933, omitting from emblazonment "Passchendaele" and St. Quentin Canal" of the 1st Life Guards.

I do not know where the comma" should go but it's missing. QuentinUK (talk) 01:54, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hat[edit]

I am in a group in one of my games and their hat is a special shako while the article's pictures show they have a helmet like that of the dragoons. What is true? Vpitt5 (talk) 03:46, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why "Life Guards"?[edit]

Where did the name "life guard" come from? --Badger151 (talk) 00:02, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Frustrating, isn't it? It obviously means they guard the life of the current monarch, but they don't explicitly say that just like that although all the other recounting essentially confirms it. 98.4.124.117 (talk) 09:50, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Error in the French:[edit]

Unless I am very much mistaken... "Honi soit qui mal y pense" should not be translated as "Evil be to him who evil thinks badly of it." The traditional translation is "Evil be to him who evil thinks," and a modern translation is "Evil be to him who thinks badly of it." Or, the page about the Order of the Garter says: "Shame on him who thinks evil of it" which seems to me to be better still. Perhaps the best is "Shame on him who thinks it shameful," to maintain the symmetry of the traditional translation.

In any case, "Evil be to him who evil thinks badly of it" is a mutant hybrid translation, and fails to make any sense at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.188.249.249 (talk) 22:54, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not only are you right, but Honi soit qui mal y pense has the correct translation as well. Changing it rn. Thanks for bringing it up! Double Plus Ungood (talk) 18:44, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
