Football crazy[edit]

Football is a much-loved sport. However, I'm not convinced that everybody who has ever kicked a ball for a minor side ought necessarily to count as a 'notable' Jamaican Briton - despite having once or twice made appearances for England U21 or even Jamaica. Therefore, while I would not remove Trevor Benjamin - I do question the Northwich Victoria player's genuine 'notablility' in the world of football or the world of Jamaicans. It strikes me that he is simply an ordinary professional (admirable for that), but not an outstanding achiever. His job just happens to also be done by some genuinely notable people.

I suppose the problem is that the many 'Jamaican Britons' who daily work as doctors, lawyers, senior nurses, headteachers, social-workers, scientists, academics and business managers etc don't need or want 'fame' - where as football and pop music survive on little else.

I propose that 'less is more'. A shorter list of genuine notables would be far more useful than a long trawl through dozens of less eminent persons. For example, prize-winning novelists Levy and Smith have both had their works adapted into prime-time TV dramas - which are outstanding achievements for in their profession. Walter Boyd[edit]

Is he realy a Jamaican Briton rather than a Jamaican who happened to work in Britian for a while? He seems to be based in Jamaica again and it says nothing in his entry about him taking British citizenship so it's hard to see how he belongs in this category.
