Delete?[edit]

This isn't an article. I know there was just an Afd (which is being discussed on deletion review), but I think this should be deleted regardless. The current content isn't an article, and from the very title of the page, it's clear that it's not intended to be an article. I wouldn't object to a category being made for this, but this list is unencyclopedic and unmaintainable. Friday (talk) 17:16, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As he says. If this were a "List of prominent followers of Islamic business practices" I (and other participants in the deletion debate) wouldn't object, but this isn't it. There is nothing salvageable here, it's a list of businessmen who happen to be practising Islam. Pilatus 02:01, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't neccessarily object to a topic change as you've suggested. However, in that case I question the value of morphing this article into something else, versus simply starting a new article on a proper topic. In my experience, almost any Muslim in business follows Islamic business practices (to a greater or lesser extent), but if the article was about notable advocates of Islamic business, that might make sense. Of course, maybe such a thing is better off as part of Islamic economics. I wonder if the simplest way to get rid of the current mess here is to make it a redirect. The only real article linking here is List of Muslims, which is a blatantly ridiculous topic for an article and probably should go away also. Friday (talk) 14:58, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I've redirected this to Islamic economics, since nobody objected. Friday (talk) 22:09, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm undoing the redirect. This list was a spinoff. You can't redirect without merging, because you lose all the information on the list. Read the AfD discussion please. -- JJay 05:55, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It should make clear why being Muslim is important to their businesses. For example the guy who did Mecca-Cola I think could fit in a way as marketing to the Muslim world is in least important to that story. A real estate executive who made billions and was raised Muslim I don't think would. Same with the List of Catholic Businesspersons. If they're on the board of say the Ave Maria Funds it'd have made since, but when they are just rich people who happens to be Catholic it doesn't. As it stands this is small enough I think it could be a list within the Islamic economics article though.--T. Anthony 05:32, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not clear on why the Afd has any bearing on this article being merged or redirected. I agree that a merge as suggested by T. Anthony may be useful. I'll slap a merge tag on the article in hopes of getting more discussion. Friday (talk) 14:56, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think the list should remain as is. The only possible place to merge would be List of Muslims, but with statements such as: a blatantly ridiculous topic for an article and probably should go away also, it is clear that certain participants in this discussion have a stated agenda. Those sort of opinions are fine on AfD- they have NO PLACE here. -- JJay 16:42, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused. To me, a talk page is a great place to talk about whether an article should exist, be merged, or have certain edits made to it. In fact, to me it sure looks like that is precisely what talk pages are for. It's true that I have an agenda: I think Wikipedia should be an encyclopedia. "List of Muslims" is silly and unmaintainable, just like "List of Christians" or "List of people with brown hair". So far people seem to be saying 1) this isn't an article, 2) we shouldn't have entries that aren't articles, and 3) whatever useful content is here could be in a place that's already an article, like Islamic economics. Do you disagree with any of those 3 points, and/or do you agree that those points are relevant to the situation at hand? So far I'm just hearing "keep", and it would be helpful to me to know why you want to keep this. Friday (talk) 16:53, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Start by trying to understand that this is a list. After that, I disagree with all your points. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, whether you agree with all its contents, some of its contents, or none of its contents. Silly is your opinion. Continually voicing it is patronizing and insults the efforts of many well-intentioned editors who, perhaps, do not see the world through your eyes. Please stop making wild claims abount maintainability. The list is very easy to maintain. When you submit a few thousand names, we can discuss ways of better maintaining the list. Yes, you are hearing Keep from me, just like I'm hearing Delete from you. Again, this is not AfD. I find this list useful. It should be expanded. -- JJay 17:14, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Let's hear in which regard you find this useful and in which direction you would like to see this expanded. Pilatus 18:28, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

MERGE?[edit]

I support the merge, we need less lists and more useful articles.Gateman1997 18:43, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
