Actors and actresses[edit]

How come there are no Tamil actors and actresses included here, despite the prominence of Kollywood? JdeJ (talk) 21:34, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These two lists have most of their content common and duplicated, so I suggest they be merged. (I understand that "Tamil people" is not the same as "people from Tamil Nadu": if someone can separate out the contents of the two lists, that would be another good solution too.)

In fact, List of people from Tamil Nadu is a poorly created copy-paste fork, and Talk:List of people from Tamil Nadu used to redirect to Talk:List of Tamil people (this page) until a few minutes ago. Shreevatsa (talk) 18:38, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not merge the Lists. The prominent Tamils who became prominent in respect of their calibre/ capacity at the appropriate geographical location may pl be preserved. R Udayashankar 117.199.209.62 (talk) 18:15, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you understand people from tamil nadu are not the same as tamil people, why do you want to merge them? There are many people on this list who are not from Tamil Nadu. Pramod 03:32, 28 March 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pramod.s (talkcontribs)

Regarding Merging of "List of Tamil people" & "List of people from Tamil Nadu":

  • Respected user who proposed the Merging.....my kind request is not List of Tamil people into List of people from Tamil Nadu.
  • Because the "List of Tamil people" is main article, and the "List of people from Tamil Nadu" article is part of that .....
  • Instead you can merge or redirect "List of people from Tamil Nadu" to "List of Tamil people"

Coreas' inclusion in this list is not right[edit]

Corea family of Ceylon is Sinhalese. It should be removed from this lost. This family held a public office designated as 'Mudaliar', but it doesn't mean the family is of Tamil origin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.201.165.25 (talk) 14:54, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This list is indeed too long[edit]

I am looking for suggestions to break this up Kanatonian (talk) 23:08, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

brahmins[edit]

most this list is composed of brahmins who have nothing in common with tamils apart from a common spoken language (that too with a distinct dialect composed of mainly sanskrit mixed with tamil, brahmin tamil) claiming the success of brahmins as the success of tamils is offensive. Temporary 1010 (talk) 17:58, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a place for "ethnic cleansing"; people are generally identified as those speaking a particular language or following a particular culture for generations and identify themselves as belonging to that group; this can even override any genetic analysis. It's just whatever the sources say. Rasnaboy (talk) 04:37, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In the list of notable Telugu,Kannadigas,ect...there are brahmins
But no one argues to remove that than why u all argue here to remove brahmins from the list 218.212.108.70 (talk) 14:55, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
