Greyhound racing[edit]

Since no other page for it has been created since all the pages broke away from List of stadiums by capacity and as this is the closest thing to it, should we include greyhound racetracks (with possible rename)? I am going to add a few unless others think otherwise The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 17:44, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Although it may not be nessecary as I'm currently trawling through the greyhound track pages on Wikipedia and I'm really struggling to find one big enough for inclusion. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 18:08, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Celtic Park (Belfast) and Harringay Stadium might be examples. Not sure about current venues. As for the name, List of animal racing venues by capacity seems a bit forced. I know ostriches, camels, elephants, etc are raced around the world, but I can't think of any that do it in a permanent structure with a capacity of at least 40,000 people. Another option is to keep the current name and just notate that there are two greyhound racing venues. Even with the addition of the two above venues, it still predominately consists of horse racing venues. Patken4 (talk) 00:50, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

British racecourses[edit]

The British entries in the list all seem dubious.

The actual attendances at Ascot (Royal Ascot Saturday: 2018, 74,417; 2017, 71,572; 2016, 71,088) and Cheltenham (Gold Cup Friday 2018, 70,684; 2017, 70,160; 2016, 70,242) regularly exceed the figures quoted and it is implausible that they are regularly contravening their licensed capacities.

Aintree's attendance on Grand National Day hasn't exceeded 70,000 since 2004 and hasn't got near the quoted figure since 1989. It is usually between 64-65,000 which suggests that 65,000 or thereabouts is the current licensed capacity.

There are no published accurate attendance figures for Epsom because the Downs are public but 125,000 was estimated in 2012 and 2015 and it could have held many more.

The Hamilton Park figures are nonsense. The racing crowd hasn't exceeded 10,000 since 1989 and 10,000 was the capacity for a sold out pop concert in 2010. It is inconceivable the the racing authorities are maintaining a licensed capacity vastly in excess of anything the have any chance of achieving.

York regularly gets in excess of 40,000 but I am sceptical that it could lawfully accomodate over 50,000. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.0.73.185 (talk) 14:28, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
