Deviations from the USCG list[edit]

I have added articles on a few lights not on the USCG history site list. I'm not sure why they were omitted; the Pass Christian Light is even mentioned there but has no entry of its own. All of those included are well attested to in official documents as well as historical sources. Mangoe (talk) 17:04, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

re Petit Bois Light[edit]

I'm not sure why nearly every historical source claims that the official name of the the last light at Horn Island Pass was the Petit Bois Light. I have been through every chart on which it appears, and it is invariably labelled "Horn Island Light". I've retained the name as an alternative but but kept everything in the Horn Island Light article as well as simply giving a cross reference here. Mangoe (talk) 17:04, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

re Natchez Light[edit]

I haven't written a separate article for this early light because information on it is so scanty and inconsistent. It's clear that the 1827 date for establishment is incorrect, as the Coast Guard history gives this as the date for appropriation; I haven't been able to resolve the date of its destruction among the various sources, nor whether it was ever lit. Ironically an image is available, a landscape by Karl Bodmer. It's on too large a scale to be useful here, however, and I couldn't find a good on-line copy of it.
