Incomplete source[edit]

The sources used on this article are incomplete, it is missing numerous matches from AJW and few other companies. I think adding Cagematch.com as a source could be helpful. ItsMichaelRay (talk) 17:44, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would suport, but I think citing WON itself would be best of all.★Trekker (talk) 17:57, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just use the Cagematch source. It's the most complete collection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C5D:5B00:3B0:81AB:C9A8:5EFA:B3CE (talk) 04:09, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Does WON keep track of all their 5 star matches? I've looked for it and have never found it. ItsMichaelRay (talk) 19:30, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No sadly I don't think it does, but if we found citations to the specific issues that would be good.★Trekker (talk) 20:20, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
solowrestling and superluchas sometimes covers the 5 stars --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 20:24, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I actually compiled a few 'five star matches' lists together into one list, although I don't know if that counts as a credible source.ItsMichaelRay (talk) 01:04, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You also need to be careful of matches that are often reported as 5 stars, but did not receive 5 stars from Meltzer himself. To wit: the SMW rage in a cage, Cactus Jack vs Eddie Gilbert, and the FMW in LA six-man were not given 5 stars by Dave but from readers who submitted their reports, and are mixed up on sources like Cagematch and ProFight. Sherick (talk) 17:45, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I added notes saying they are debated. The main reason I had formatted the list the way I did was so that people could pick and choose which sources they trust. Are there any other incorrectly included matches? ItsMichaelRay (talk) 04:13, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not Savage-Steamboat ar WM III?[edit]

Eh? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 197.87.101.254 (talk) 15:25, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, just 4 1/2 stars --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 15:37, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of professional wrestling matches rated 5 or more stars by Dave Meltzer's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "cagematch":

  • From Tyler Bate: "Tyler Bate". cagematch.net. Retrieved 1 March 2018.
  • From Brian Lee (wrestler): "Brian Lee - Cagematch Bio". cagematch.net. Retrieved November 22, 2018.
  • From Phil Lafon: "Phil Lafon". Cagematch.net. Retrieved January 24, 2018.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 20:00, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't the Rage In A Cage match in SMW 5 stars or not?[edit]

I found out in Profightdb that the match was rated 5 stars but I'm not sure if it's true.

According to Cagematch, it's not [1] So, one of them is wrong. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:56, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Double check alleged ratings with the Newsletter, and if you can't or don't want to subscribe to check then don't edit. Sherick (talk) 01:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
According to https://www.iwnerd.com/dave-meltzer-5-star-matches-list/2/ (which has been used as citation on this site regularly for other matches), this match is indeed a 5 star match. Effluvium1 (talk) 00:00, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The source is wrong, all 1993 Observers are available online and that rating only appears in correspondent's section. Again, double check. Sherick (talk) 19:31, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have an addition to the list...maybe...[edit]

Firstly, I'd like to point out that neither ProfightDB nor Cagematch.net are "complete" lists of 5-star matches. Examples of this are NONE of the AJW (All-Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling) matches or cards are featured on ProfightDB, and there's also a few matches missing from Cagematch.net (eg, the WarGames match at The Great American Bash 1987 has no rating). However, I found a match that has a 5-star rating on both those sites, and I was wondering if anyone could verify this for me? The Fantastics vs. The Midnight Express on a taping of NWA Worldwide - for the US Tag Team Titles, on April 26, 1988 (although I don't think it was aired until May 14th) - can anyone help? Effluvium1 (talk) 23:51, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think he ever rated that. There's no mention of a star rating anywhere in his body of writing, though he has in recent years said it was one of the three best tag matches he's ever seen, which would imply 5 stars, but he never straight up said it. Sherick (talk) 19:57, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We now have confirmation from Dave himself that he gave that match 5-stars:

Looks like we need to add it to the official list. 132.147.11.120 (talk) 18:10, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

delete pls. I was wrong. matches were re-rated in the 2/25/91 issue

Semi-protected edit request on 19 April 2024[edit]

Sameensafeeraliyar 567 (talk) 12:17, 19 April 2024 (UTC)It is requested that an edit be made to the semi-protected article at List of professional wrestling matches rated 5 or more stars by Dave Meltzer. (edit · history · last · links · protection log)[reply]

This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. "Please change X" is not acceptable and will be rejected; the request must be of the form "please change X to Y".

The edit may be made by any autoconfirmed user. Remember to change the |answered=no parameter to "yes" when the request has been accepted, rejected or on hold awaiting user input. This is so that inactive or completed requests don't needlessly fill up the edit requests category. You may also wish to use the template in the response. To request that a page be protected or unprotected, make a protection request.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talk|contribs) 12:21, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have consistently added unsourced information to this article, and a report was filed at WP:EWN which I only retracted because the article was protected. To make it perfectly clear: please provide a source for your changes. — Czello (music) 12:31, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Fixed, thanks — Czello (music) 13:59, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it was below a 5* rating then it shouldn't be in the list at all and you could just remove it entirely. Dillpicklerush (talk) 16:00, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good point, my brain clearly stopped working when I made that edit! I've removed it now. Thanks. — Czello (music) 16:02, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
