Untitled[edit]

Old Dutch Parsonage is listed here as being the original site of the college, but the Rutgers page itself makes no such claim, and it seems far-fetched. It's a long distance by horse--it's in the next county! And the Rutgers page indicates classes were first held in a tavern in New Brunswick. 208.85.153.1 (talk) 21:22, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria?[edit]

Is there an date for residences? It would appear that as this list expands it becomes more random and diluted. Is there a goal here? Oldest building each county would be 26, each town or CDP 550. Churches, oldest of each demonination? of each county? each architectual style? It would seem wise to create some parameters for inclusion {however narrow or broad). It should seen a description should be required. There are hundreds of building in NJ that w/o guidelines them would fit on this list. (which is the direction it's going in). For the sake of orderly format it would be nice if the link includes the location in the title to separate it and have its name only in one column and location in another. Buildings w/o articles seem to qualify for inclusion (and may perhaps inpire one)Djflem (talk) 18:23, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added a few of your suggestions to the opening of the list. Feel free to further define the criteria for inclusion. Thanks for keeping an eye on the list. Swampyank (talk) 19:07, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

House references for possible inclusion?[edit]

Royal Governors Palace in Perth Amboy, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8A:402:4939:30DC:3383:E21E:F5F5 (talk) 12:25, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing in th article which gives date of this house, and foto shows it to be much later consstruction technique and style Djflem (talk) 14:02, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll revert the dubious tag for now. A link from the house article http://www.trinitywoodbridge.org/AboutTrinity.html gives the 1670 date. It may not be the most reliable type of source, but I think there will be others (e.g. the NRHP listing which you have to request by snail mail for NJ). The roof line, gable, and entrance porch are very likely Victorian - so the comment above is not entirely off-base. Nevertheless, the foundation (from what I can tell with a brief look) and especially the Flemish bond brickwork look quite consistent with the 1670 date.
All that said, we need to welcome some skepticism for items on these "Oldest in ..." lists. People do get carried away in claiming the oldest this or that, and we do need to review some of these claims. Smallbones (talk) 16:32, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Made corrective shift on list based on http://www.wthpc.org/WHS%20map-3.pdf, which seems most likely reliable. Djflem (talk) 20:19, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mortonson-Van Leer Log Cabin[edit]

Mortonson-Van Leer Log Cabin (16??) has no clear date and NOW appears twice, also as Schorn Log Cabin (c.1700).Djflem (talk) 20:27, 28 April 2020 (UTC) Any RS?[reply]

Have reverted again today. Appears the plantation house to which was connected was built 1698, by settler who arrived in 1654. Any good references?Djflem (talk) 19:17, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
