Article title[edit]

I've returned the page to the old title name (with no number) - whilst the regiment was ranked as the 64th, the numbers weren't used as regimental titles until the 1750s, and the practice of the colonel's name was more conventional. Shimgray | talk | 19:51, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism?[edit]

The material in this article is not encyclopedically written and seems to have been copy-pasted from a book on regiments. See wording like this: "he great bravery of the 43rd Highlanders (later renumbered the 42nd) and the admirable service which they rendered at the Battle of Fontenoy in May 1745, made the Government anxious to avail themselves still further of the military qualities of the Highlanders. Authority, therefore, was given to John Campbell, 4th Earl of Loudoun to raise another Highland regiment under the patronage of the noblemen, chiefs, and gentlemen of that part of the kingdom ..."

I don't know that it's a copy-vio; it could be material from a Victorian book (and kinda sounds like it). But even in that case, the source should be clearly acknowledged (as we do with 1911 Britannica material we reuse), and it should also be rewritten to comply with encyclopedic style and neutrality.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  17:16, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
