Marriott Headquarters

Marriott Headquarters is located in Bethesda MD, but it has an address in DC

Company

I'm trying to build up all Marriott history here so that it can be used to split out the current and past companies as requried. Host Marriott is another company that was formed from the food services division being listed here as a part of this company. Vegaswikian 22:39, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Food service division

When did this start? In 1937 with the airline services or 1939 with the government contract?Vegaswikian 22:39, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Book of Mormon

Does anyone know why Marriott places the Book of Mormon in its rooms alongside the Gideon Bible? Carolynparrishfan 16:37, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Because the Marriotts' are Mormon. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 07:33, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Where/who says this? Luke 06:26, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
Says me, i used to work for the company. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 08:17, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
This is widely known within the LDS community. Look here for information on the Marriotts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mormons#Business DavidBailey 13:39, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

External Links

I've added an external link to the Marriott resort owners' message board. This forum is for the 350,000 Marriott resort owners in the world and is a valuable resource. It's commercial free. Website is found at www.MARowner.com I posted it a few days ago, and it was edited and removed, and I gotta say I was scratching my head about that edit ! :) It's on topic and valuable to Marriott owners and other interests! It provides an open forum for people to talk about Marriott live in real time! Good stuff. thx, DavidMcGillycuddy 01:29, 23 February 2007 (UTC)DavidMcGillycuddy

  • Well, it does not add anything of encyclopedic nature. So it will be removed again. This is an encyclopedia and not a chat reference board for every topic. Vegaswikian 01:38, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

So it was removed by the editor. I hope it will be reinstated. It is on the external links section, and that is a reference for people to send them for more segmented and detailed information about Marriott. The website www.MARowner.com lists ALL the Marriott resorts and is an owners' board for each Marriott property. Lots of information there now and in the future. I know if I was writing a business paper about Marriott, I would want to tap into that resource. Besides, it is a link on the external links section. Why not let the people decide what external link is valuable to them? Wiki is for the people., I know when I donated to Wiki, that's what I thought! Fair use rationale for Image:Marriott.gif

Image:Marriott.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:55, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Porn peddlers

This is in response to a comment that (rightly so) got deleted from the article. But the issue comes up quite often, so I'd like to (hopefully) nip it in bud here. The issue is regarding porn in Marriott hotels. Marriott, like most other hotel chains, offers "on demand" movies, including adult films. This is seen as hypocritical, since the Marriotts are LDS and the LDS are supposed to be squeaky clean. I did some looking and came across the following from here:

Having spent most of my career in the hospitality industry I need to comment on the Marriotts.
There are two or three primary providers of hotel movies. These independent, third party companies, choose which movies will be viewed on their programming. Marriott has no say in which movies will be viewed. They could choose to have no pay per view movies, and then the typical hotel consumer would stay some where else.
To call Marriott purveyors of pornography is ridiculous. Marriott, and most other hotel companies, allow the guest to block access to "adult" movies.

And, interestingly:

Being a finance guy, I can assure you that hotel movies make more money by offering porn than all other types of movies combined. Therefore, the 3rd party company that chooses what is available will never take away that option.

And, from the same page:

The deal with Marriot... [is] very complicated, because Marriot licenses their name/system, and doesn't own all the actual hotels, just some of them. Most Marriots are franchised if I understand correctly.

It is by no means something that we can use as a reference, it is just a blog afterall. But it might be used a starting point if we're forced to address the issue in the future: Marriott is not directly responsible for the content of movies shown in its rooms. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 15:49, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Bogus "human rights" section deleted

The so-called "human rights" section is nothing but a sneaky insertion of political propaganda. The so-called "human rights" organization cited is a pro-Arab "Boycott Israel" political front. This is POV against Wikipedia policy. Section deleted. Do not revert. J M Rice (talk) 16:07, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

The lead....

...needs attention, it shouldn't have a bulleted list in there and probably doesn't need that info at all. Any suggestions? RaseaC (talk) 19:47, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Vacations by Marriott is missing from this article

I noticed that Vacations by Marriott is missing from the Marriott International page. Can anyone recommend the best place to add it to the article? Lindseyjsd14 (talk) 17:58, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

In the Marriott brands section? — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 19:37, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, Frecklefoot. Good idea. Lindseyjsd14 (talk) 20:05, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
