This article is missing an important element-- what is the essential content of Minjung theology? Lulu71339 (talk) 02:46, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will be trying to determine what the essential components of Minjung theology are and what sources I can use to verify the information. TipsyElephant (talk) 01:04, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's also missing major theologians in the movement, like Chung Hyun Kyung. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.190.93 (talk) 02:55, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will also be trying to determine all of the major theologians in the movement and possibly creating a list or table at the end of the article or at least including some prose about each theologian. TipsyElephant (talk) 01:04, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notes[edit]

I'm planning on spending time improving this article and I figured I would use the talk page to make some notes and list potential sources. I'll be adding quite a few sources here and slowly transition them into the article. If I don't use a source I'll leave it here on the talk page as a history of potential sources. If anyone else finds the content I put here useful then feel free to use it.

I'll start with some English sources because WP:NONENG says that English sources are preferred on the English Wikipedia, but I'll look into Korean sources as well because they are more likely to be of higher quality and relevance to the subject. I was really unclear on whether the pastor in this article was pro-minjung theology or anti-minjung theology, but it sounded like he was doinf some pretty radical stuff. For instance, the congregants taught classes and the finances were transparent.[1]
The article mentions the labor movement or slum movement where Minjung theologians would live simply with the poor. The article also mentions that Jesus loved the poor. Pastor Hyung-gyu Park was an activist who practiced Minjung theology. Minjung theology was a large part of the democratization movement in Korea. The article also mentions the Korean Christian Presbyterian Society of Progressive Theology.[2]
Minjung theology and liberation theology are very similar. Minjung theology comes from Korea, whereas liberation theology comes from latin america. Liberation theology is often associated with catholicism, whereas Minjung theology is associated with protostentism.[3]
This article questions whether minjung theology is rooted in juche and whether minjung theology is a form of idol worship that puts Kim Il-sung before God.[4]
This might be the most useful source. The author puts an emphasis on minjung theology being a wandering theology.[5]
This article mentions that minjung theology is concerned with the poor and oppressed, but that other theologies can be like opium when they side with the oppressor and assume that poverty is inevitable.[6]
This article translates into english nicely and gives some great current day examples. It also mentions the URL for a church that might be worth including in the external links. The article heavily emphasizes the equality of people and mentions Karl Barth as an inspiration.[7]
This article mentions that Shim Won Byeong-moo is a minjung theologian.[8]
Pastor Donghwan Moon was a minjung theologian who passed awayin 2019. It says that his theological views emphasized the immigrant or people who are drifting.[9]
I can't tell if this article is pro-minjung theology or anti-minjung theology. It emphasizes the need for justice and to do good rather than just apearing good.[10]
Professor Won-young Son was a minjung theologian who was fired from Seoul Christian University. They claimed minjung theology was anti-christian and were horrified that he preached at a buddhist temple.[11]
Kim Seong-bok was a minjung theologian responsible for establishing the Samteo Church. He was actively involved with the demcrotization movement and many other political actions.[12]
Pastor Hong In-sik is a liberation theologian who lived briefly in Paraguay where he came across a book by guiterrez.[13]
Yoon Seok-cheol wrote a seven volume book that focuses on the life of Jesus as a poor revolutionary striving for the peaceful liberation from the oppression of the ruling class.[14]
Lee Sang-cheol is a pastor at Hanbaek Church (a minjung church) and the author of Humanities of the Dead Gods.[15]
This is a very important and useful source. It mentions the relationship between Minjung theology and different churches, denominations, and theologians.[16]
I found an english newspaper article on minjung theology.[17]
More Korean sources I haven't read that contain references to Minjung theology.[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]

Bibliography[edit]

Hello,

I just postponed CSD G13 speedy deletion of this draft, Draft:Bibliography of minjung theology, and I was thinking perhaps some of the content would be useful to incorporate here. Liz Read! Talk! 19:09, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
