A noted descendant[edit]

John A. Morris was a decendant of "The Morris Family" of what was "Morrisania" Westchester Co. (Now The Bronx, New York). His personal interests would lead him to horseracing. Much of his time becoming aquainted friends with August Belmont, Sr., and Leonard W. Jerome, the owner of "Jerome Park Racetrack" fame. After Jerome sold most of the racetrack property, to build a water reservior for The City of New York, John Morris gathered his finances, along with The American Jocky Club and friends, and had built "The Morris Park Racetrack".
