Copyright renewal[edit]

Probably due to changes in corporate ownership, Fox Movietone failed to properly file copyright renewals for large swathes of its content prior to 1948. Under the 1909 Copyright Act in effect at the time, this means that the content has lapsed to the public domain in the United States. Reference the mopix copyright ledgers at the Library of Congress's Copyright Office. The repositories holding onto the content can license access to the original film elements (as that is physical property), but cannot license the intellectual property. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sgreene820 (talkcontribs) 14:08, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
