Spelled Aleksandr Usyk[edit]
This article should be moved to Aleksandr Usyk as that is how he spells his name. This can be seen on his verified Instagram account. The Ring belt that was recently awarded to him also has his name spelled that way[1] as does the WBSS that he won[2] and HBO where he fought on.[3] Some more links: [4][5][6][7][8] Many other reliable sources do spell it Oleksandr but that could be because they were heavily influenced by Wikipedia. Aleksandr should be used as sources differ and that is how he spells it per his social media accounts. Naue7 (talk) 00:26, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- I'm getting many more Google hits for Oleksandr than Alexandr, using a string of
"Oleksandr Usyk" -wiki -wikipedia -forum -forums
to narrow things down. However, the above sources are definitely worth consideration to perhaps go against WP:COMMONNAME in this case. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 16:50, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- Either is okay to me. I think this is common with European's. I do prefer Oleksandr, as like Mac stated, get's more hits. --Mahussain06 (talk) 09:20, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- As stated before me, there's a huge gap between "Oleksandr Usyk" and "Aleksandr Usyk" both in Google hits[11][12] and Google Trends[13]. All major media outlets, like BBC[14], NYTimes[15], The Times[16], use only one form of Usyk's name - "Oleksandr", which is not surprising considering that it's his real name in passport. As for social-media profiles and merchandise, I don't think they're worth consideration per common sense: profile names are unregulated and are known not to be taken seriously, while merchandise is pure form of art - not information. Good example of that is Usyk's own official Instagram account which as of today has "Usyk. Cat. Aleksandr" as its name. --keepthesmoke (talk) 19:35, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
Pronunciation needs attention[edit]
The IPA and respelling pronunciations do not correspond. Are these meant to be the Ukrainian or anglicized pronunciation? The latter is /ˈuːsɪk/, which corresponds to OO-sik. — Paul G (talk)
2023 Usyk came to the front[edit]
On April 27, 2023, Oleksandr Usyk visited the front, namely the Bakhmut district. There he met with the soldiers of the 24th separate mechanized brigade of King Danylo, where he expressed his support for them.[17] Олекса Доба (talk) 09:17, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
He defeated Daniel Dubois in the ninth round[edit]

One of the dates for his fights in wrong 185.210.163.116 (talk) 20:16, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Which one, and what is correct? If the current date is well-sourced, do you have other reliable sources that support the other date? I've closed the request for now, please reopen it when you've provided the information needed to make the change. Tollens (talk) 20:44, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
WePlay Ultimate Fighting League - status?[edit]
The article mentions that, in December 2020, Usyk was one of the co-founders of WePlay Ultimate Fighting League. However, the article about that WePlay league was not significantly updated since then, and it still discusses the "upcoming" first season, set to start in March 2021 (which was more than three years ago). The official website wufl.gg has not been functional since about early-to-mid 2022, according to the Wayback Machine.[18] The last functional capture of the website dates from February 2022.[19], but it doesn't give enough information to tell if the 2021 event actually took place, and/or what happened to WUFL after that. If it has shut down then that should be mentioned in both articles. An update is definitely needed!
The Twitch channel linked from the WUFL article has no content on it,[20] and weplay.tv make no mention of either WUFL, or of the alleged partnership with Usyk, suggesting that neither exist anymore.
The first season clearly took place, and there were articles on the weplay.tv website about it at the time (all of which, it appears, have been taken down since then).[21][22] Renerpho (talk) 16:21, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
