merge[edit]

There's a new article, Palo mayombe, which is similar to this article. Could someone who knows anything about the subject merge or distinguish the two please? Bubamara 4 July 2005 09:49 (UTC)

Please Merge Monte and Mayombe and distinguish from Palo Leyte[edit]

I think that discussion is limited here due to the paucity of editors in this area and hence a lack of people interested in the matter. However, as an active editor in this area (African diasporic traditions), i would like to simply present a conclusive case that Palo Mayombe and Palo Monte should be merged and a disambiguation page or disambiguation links must be created to distinguish the two forms of Palo religion from the Palo, Leyte page. I urge that this be done as soon as possible, because i am working in a bunch of pages that should reference Cuban Palo religious traditions collectively, but i have so far been unable to make the links because i lack a firm, decided-upon place for those links to land. As a hopefully fluent writer, i cannot work up sentence structures that direct readers to both Palo Monte and Palo Mayombe, but directing them to Palo as a collective religion lands them in the Philippines. I suggest creating Palo (religion) containing the merged Monte and Mayombe texts and Palo (Leyte) for the city to fix the problem. SPEEDY resuloution by someone with administrative experience and skill is required. Thanks. I am also posting this to Commander Keane's talk page, as the Commander has been extremely helpful to me in the past. Ready for the Completion of the Palo (Monte, Mayombe, and Leyte) Change-Over[edit]

Hello again, Commander Keane.

I have integrated the entirety of the Palo mayombe (note dreadful and wrong lower case "m") article into the new Palo (religion) page. I have eliminated duplicated information, added new information, cleaned up the book references, and added an external link. (For the record, i am not a member of this religion, but i am a friend of Dr. Eoghan Ballard, the creator of inquiceweb.com, the external link i cited.)

The page now should read well, barring typos. Please look it over for me. If it passes muster in its new form, i would like to request the following further administrative changes. I will number them for convenience

Thanks for your attention to this, and for allowing me to write for the WP. I am enjoying both the social and the intellectual aspects of the work.

This quote is Incorrect:

Thus the entity "Nsambi Munalembe" (also known as "Nsasi", "Siete Rayos" and various other names) may be said by these authors to be the equivalent of Saint Barbara in Catholicism or Chango (Shango) in Santeria.

Nsambia or Sambia, is the name of the single creator God in this believe system, and is not directly connected to Nsasi or Siete Rayos in this way. The Connection between Nsasi/Siete Rayos and Saint Barbara & Chango are correct however. This is because the similarity in the energies and elements associated with this entity.

Confusing Section[edit]

This section is kind of confusing. Does it assume a knowlege of Jewish syncretism? It is not clear.

Grammar[edit]

Innacurrate Information[edit]

Stating that Palo began in the Dominican Republic is highly inaccurate. You can also add that till 1959 after the Cuban revolution that Palo was not really well established in Puerto Rico. The largest concentration of Bantu and Yourba peoples came to Cuba.

Question regarding the origin of les Reglas de Congo[edit]

In trying to convert a redlink into an active link, I've come across some difficulty in defining the origins of the practitioners of "Reglas de Congo". The article, as I first found it, said they were "Congo people" which, when bracketed, creates a redlink. When you change it to "Congolese people", which I attempted to do, you get a disambiguation page which offers, variously: the modern Congo republics, the Congo Basin, and the Kingdom of Kongo. I think it quite possible that the original writer of the line in question had either the Kingdom of Kongo or the Congo Basin in mind, but as there's no citation for this passage, it's hard to puzzle out the intention.
