A few things[edit]

I'm something of a newcomer, so bear with me.

First off, I was a little confused by the picture used for this article. It depicts a train at Mineola station, which is not technically a part of the Port Jefferson Branch. I've checked the pages for the other branches of the Long Island Rail Road, and they all seem to be using pictures of stations that are actually a part of the branch being depicted in the article. Would there be objections if the picture were changed to a photograph of a station belonging to the Port Jefferson Branch?

The chart with the list of stations seems inaccurate to me. I was under the impression that the stations from Floral Park to Hicksville are generally considered to be a part of the main branch (Ronkonkoma) rather than the Port Jefferson Branch, despite the fact that these stations are given the same color as the Port Jefferson Branch on the LIRR station map. It seems odd to me that these stations would be included in the list of Port Jefferson Branch stations when it is even stated earlier in the article that the line begins at Hicksville.

Yes, the collection of Wikipedia LIRR articles is a real muddle. Physically the Port Jefferson Branch extends east from Hicksville, no question about that. But it so happens the only trains that stop at Main Line stations like New Hyde Park are trains bound to/from the PJ branch-- so New Hyde Park is only shown in the PJ public timetable, and Wikipedia authors call it a PJ station. In a sense it is a PJ station, but without an explanation (so far lacking) readers can't make any sense of it.
Same situation elsewhere-- should we call St Albans a West Hempstead branch station? Maybe so, but if we do we should make clear that the railroad it's on is not the WH branch and has never had anything to do with the WH branch. Tim Zukas (talk) 17:11, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Tim's right, although it would be nice to have one from Port Jefferson (LIRR station) itself, but none of those images have any trains(my apologies). However, there's a nice one from Stony Brook Station that could be a decent substitute. ----DanTD (talk) 16:05, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just changed the image to one that's not on the Main Line. It's not Port Jefferson Station itself, but it's pretty close. ----DanTD (talk) 23:07, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Morrison & Keller Book[edit]

Does anybody else have a copy of "Long Island Rail Road: Port Jefferson Branch," by David D. Morrison and David Keller? I have the Kindle copy, and no matter which format you buy it in, it has info that will just blow you away. Port Jeff Branch station articles will truly benefit from this book. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 00:38, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Misplaced paragraph[edit]

Why is this line in the Kings Park Hospital Spur section?:

"On a small note, electrification reached from Mineola to Hicksville & Huntington in 1970. For 15 years from Amott Interlocking east of Syosset Station to west of Huntington it was single-tracked. In 1985, the LIRR constructed a second electrified track in that area to avoid the single track bottle neck, this included Cold Spring Harbor adding a second platform."

It should be in the segment on electrification. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:56, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'd argue it shouldn't be anywhere as it has no source. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 19:12, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have seen sources for this elsewhere, and can put them in at some point. Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 20:21, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
