Re: "Dandi Proll"-Clarification[edit]

"Dandi Proll" is the Nukh of Bhambrai Bradri and Purswani family is a part of it. As such "Dandi Proll" is also the Nukh of Purswani Family. The meaning of Nukh is as under: Nukh and Surname: They say a person's characteristics are known by his name and surname. It gives the basic makeover of the person, revealing his community, as well as identity.

Our Sindhi community is an ancient one -- having our own set of exclusive names and surnames. Tracing back up to the oldest civilizations, Sindhi names and surnames derive their meanings from Sanskrit words. It seems in those early days in pre-historic Sindh, apart from the individual name (Nalo), each family was allotted a Nukh and Gotar, which helped to identify one another.

A glance down the history of Hindus reveals that during Rig Ved period, every family was identified by Grandfathers name. Garg Rishi’s children were called “Gargeen” while Dikash (Prajpati’s children) were initially addressed as “Dakshyan” or “Dakshyani”. Studies reveal that ‘Yani’ or ‘Yan’ (Suffix) are Sanskrit words, which mean – “Descendants” and the same were pronounced in Sindhi as “Ani”. Another explanation of the same states that the word ‘Ani’ has its origin in the Sanskrit word ‘Ansh’ meaning progeny or a part of the whole. Thus one could deduce that Sindhis adopted the practice of adding the suffix ‘Ani’ after the name of their grand father or great grandfather (ancestor) and that becomes their surname.

Every Sindhi surname has "Nukh". The need for the name of the Nukh arose because, as the size of the families grew, it was imperative to identify each family by a name. The Aryans propagated families of one Nukh to live together under one roof. This was called “Kul” or “Parivar” and they were identified by their Nukh. If the settlement had more than one Kul or Parivar, it was called “Gotra”, meaning Larger or Maha Kul. The word Gotra is derived from “Go”, which means Cow and 'Tra”, which means sanctuary/ shelter. Thus from one’s Nukh, one knew which Gotra one belonged to. In Sanskrit, the word for “Nukh” is “Lakh”, or “Lakshan”, meaning “to know from where one hails”. As the size of families grew within the Gotra, need arose to identify each family by name.

The surname “Purswani” is derived from the name of our ancestor Late Shri Pursumal S/o Nebhraj Jethmal Bhambai. The “Purswani Family Tree” is now blissful of seven generations old.

The “Purswani Family” falls under “Bhambrai Bradri” Nukh “Dandi Proll”201.225.88.74 (talk) 21:12, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification:"In the year 711, Hujjaj Bin Yusif, the Umayyad Governor of Iraq (appointed by Khalifa Walid) sent the Arab forces under Muhammad Bin Qasim (then 17 years old) to conquer Sindh. The first town he attacked was Debal, and upon the orders of Al-Hajjaj he looted its residents or priests and destroyed its temple in the process of freeing the kidnapped women.[clarification needed][who?] He then settled a garrison of four thousand colonists in one quarter of Debal, building a mosque over the remains of the original temple."[edit]

Clarification-Mukhi of Amil Panchayat[edit]

The entire Hindu community in India is divisional into manifold social groups based on their individual customs and moral for their spiritual, cultural usages. Mostly, India has lived in far flung villages since ages where the control of rulers could not reach to ensure the preservation of social matters, rules of conduct and established usages by individual members of various groups. It, therefore, became necessary to establish voluntary institutions by consent of members of the groups which could undertake the responsibilities to exercise these powers. Such institutions have been established for ages, all over India and are named Panchayats. These Panchayats continue to play important role in social conduct of their respective groups even today. The main and primary functions, responsibilities, duties and exercise of powers of a panchayat are to oversee that members abide by the social, moral, spiritual, cultural conduct and established usages to maintain traditions. The Panchayats are responsible to guard the cultural heritage of the groups and to promote spirit of brotherhood between members at large and prevent discord within or between families so that those families lead a happy life. The secondary functions of Panchayats may include the rendering of economic assistance to needy members. The head of Panchayat is called "Mukhi". "Amil Panchayat" means the Panchayat of Amils which is a cultural group of Sindhi Community. 201.225.88.74 (talk) 21:35, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please read and understand WP:RS before editing this article. I have just had to gut it because, for example, sources from the British Raj era and those published by tribe/caste etc associations are not considered reliable here. - Sitush (talk) 15:31, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
