Style[edit]

Juliusz Kłos writes that the palace was originally Baroque style, while Tomas Venclova writes it was Renaissance. I'd rather believe Kłos, since he was an architect. I've checked also Rąkowski and Kucharska and they all agree it was built in Baroque. Maybe it was restored as a Renaissance building because no original plans or pictures were available ? --Lysy^talk 15:20, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

neither it is Baroque, neither pure Renaissance. Its something in between - Mannerism, a very popular style in Lithuania at that time. Klos had other Radvilos Palace in mind!!

Article's title[edit]

The problem might be that there are more than one Radziwiłł palaces in Vilnius ... and two of them are at Vilniaus street: number 22 (this one, currently art gallery) and 41/9 (currently theatre museum). Guys, in the first place, you should distinguish between Little Radziwill Palace and Grand Radziwill Palace. If you live in Vilnius, please take pictures of them. Also, please understand that "Mannerism" or "Baroque" may be convenient labels in the West, but they are not easily applicable to architecture of Eastern European countries, especially to those buildings which have been built and rebuilt numerous times throughout their history. --Ghirla ^-трёп- 16:00, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At first, the second palace (ore any other) should be mentioned in this article in order to make the distinction. As I know this palace has not been altered anyhow after the construction so it has retained its original features in contrast to the other palaces in LT. Iulius 16:50, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Right. That was my question in fact. Or: has it been restored to its original shape ? Certainly this much depends on the decorations, not only the form of the building itself. Anyway this is where citing sources could be useful in order not to get into original research. As for the other Radziwiłł palaces in Vilnius, I've heard of at least 4 I think but probably we do not need to worry about this for now, since all the above refers to Vilniaus street 22 only. --Lysy^talk 16:59, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
