Reconstruction was a band founded by John Kahn. It was formed to be an outlet for John Kahn while Garcia was on the road with the Grateful Dead. The original guitar player was the guitar player from Moby Grape. John Kahn's widow Linda has the sole legal right to release this material. After Jerry heard the band he decided he wanted to try playing more jazz inspired music and so started playing with Reconstruction.
It's a pity they never cut a record. I have a copy of a gig from the bay area, June 1979 (downloaded from gdlive, originally a bootleg cassette tape, though they no doubt knew they were being recorded) and it sounds great, the playing is tight together but still leaves place for some great soloing, and they're obviously having a very good time playing. /Strausszek (talk) 10:13, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
