Related to Ronda or Ibiza?[edit]

Given that the Málaga shared the System Porsche powertrain and Giugiaro styling with the 021A Ibiza, isn't it more accurate to describe it as a saloon variant of the contemporary Ibiza, rather than the older Ronda? Both the Ibiza and Málaga were otherwise based on the Ronda. Letdorf (talk) 23:25, 12 February 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Well I think the Málaga is a kind of mixture of elements of both the Ibiza Mk1 and the Ronda. I mean there were body panels of the Málaga (like doors, roof etc) which were identical - at least from an external side of view - to those of the Ronda, when the front fascia for example was clearly inspired from the Ibiza. A larger boot had been adapted to the chassis and as you say the powertrain and other stuff were different. To be accurate I believe we should say that the Málaga had been a transitional model for SEAT, therefore it had been a product developed from SEAT as an independent company though influenced from previous models. I found on SEAT's official website that "...the SEAT Malaga is launched as the sedan-version of the Ronda in 1985...". I think this just confirms that the Málaga is a model related most close to the Ronda and I believe that should be enough to end this discussion.
