polling discrepancy[edit]

can someone please explain how 76% of North Carolinians could possibly support a ban on same sex marriages and any other legal recognition of same sex unions while simultaneously roughly 48% of North Carolinians support either same sex marriage or civil unions?? -Laikalynx (talk) 23:24, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have been working on this page in my sandbox as part of a class assignment for Public Policy Analysis. Alkmpa

Article Rating[edit]

This article is being moved to a C class rating, because I feel it is of a substantial quality that deserves such a level of recognition. There of course are areas which should be improved, however, it is well cited and is quite unbiased in covering this controversial topic. I also look forward to any updates and edits after the May 8th election for Amendment 1 Kayz911 (talk) 18:30, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article is completely lacking in any political context - who was behind the amendment, what groups supported/opposed, why? Contaldo80 (talk) 08:53, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Rainbow flag[edit]

I have removed the image of the rainbow flag as I think it is WP:POV just as an image placed here showing an anti gay rally would be. In any case the image does not help the article but hurts it as the article is about an amendment against same-sex marriage not for it. If someone can tell me how the image helps the article please post your opinion here. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 02:24, 5 May 2012 (UTC) [reply]

Actually, this is an article about the recognition of same-sex unions in the state, of which the potential amendment against same-sex marriage is only a part, first of all. Secondly, the image isn't POV, it was simply placed there (I didn't place it there) because the article is LGBT rights-related. I'm moving the image to a better place in the article if that would satisfy your apparent demur. Teammm Let's Talk! :) 02:42, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Forget I typed this I am falling asleep here, I know dont edit when you are sleepy lol feel free to put the flag back. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 04:07, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Domestic Partnerships[edit]

Does the Domestic_partnerships section need to be updated? Which, if any, of them are still valid since Amendment 1? --Javaweb (talk) 09:46, 9 May 2012 (UTC)Javaweb[reply]

since the last federal court ruling this law was deemed unconstitutional dont know if it has been changed yet but same sex can marry here now... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.74.140.163 (talk) 18:48, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

page naming[edit]

Why is this page not named Same-sex marriage in North Carolina? I see there's been moves in both directions. I don't see any discussion here. What's the thinking one way or the other? TedErnst (talk) 04:24, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Because NC does not recognize same-sex marriage, the article focuses on civil unions by county. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 04:26, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't feel strongly about a change, but a couple of points:
  • The lede of the article focuses on same-sex marriage.
  • Many other states without same-sex marriage today have articles named Same-sex marriage in STATE as they are covering the on-going legal battles.
  • This will all work itself out when the court process is resolved. TedErnst (talk) 17:17, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We (that is, Wikipedia) are not very consistent about this. Some people rush ahead and others have guidelines (shared to a greater or lesser extent by others) that counsel patience. (I'm generally in the patient camp.) In the larger scheme of things, it doesn't much matter, especially since we seem as a general rule to make sure that users get re-directed to the most likely place, as Same-sex marriage in North Carolina redirects to Recognition of same-sex unions in North Carolina. So no one is lost. BTW, I tweaked the lede, but I hate to devote a lot of attention to what I believe will prove to be an interim entry. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 17:48, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. We'll all stay tuned. :-) TedErnst (talk) 18:56, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
