In 2006, after being inspired by reggae performances in Australia, Shrestha created a Nepali reggae band called Joint Family Internationale.[1] The nine-member group played together for two years, then was reconstituted by Shrestha in 2009 with instructors from the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory.[1] In 2013, the group released the political protest song Neta Ji which mocked the failure of Nepali politicians.[2][3] The song won Best Pop Composition and Best Group Performance at the 2013 Hits Fm Music Awards in Nepal.[2]
I am currently unsure of whether or not this is the same musician. There is another Sanjay Shrestha, who is the drummer for the Nepali rock band 1974 AD. There appears to be many more news sources about the drummer than the singer. Nirmal, the text above does not refer to an "Australian Shrestha" -- it refers to Sanjay Shrestha performing in Australia, hearing reggae, and then, upon his return to Nepal he founded the Joint Family Internationale band. The question is: which Sanjay Shrestha was this? Was it the singer who founded Crossroads and played the popular hit Maya Meri Maya, or was it the drummer for 1974 AD? Or are there two or three different musicians named Sanjay Shrestha -- or all they all the same person? The name "Sanjay" is popular in Nepal. "Shrestha" is family name. Hence there are many people with same name. sanjay shrestha of 1974AD is different person. The sanjay shrestha of this article is the singer who founded Crossroads and played the popular hit Maya Meri Maya and he needs to be mentioned in wiki because he had given significant contribution to pop-music in Nepal. Ironically, there are not much references to be found. In 1990s there was no internet and hence there is no much material available online. Similarly, the reference to newspaper is also difficult to fetch because the papers has not been digitized yet. nirmal (talk) 04:20, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
