Model?[edit]

I was at a reading in Bonn, Germany today, where she read from some of her publications and answered questions. In the introduction the host of the evening said that Shobha De also was "India's first top model". Can anybody confirm this? De couldn't comment as the introdction was held in German and she didn't understand a word of what was said. De was born in 1947, and thus she is unlikely to be one of today's "top models". She was one of the first models apart from the Bollywood idols, as we undertsnad the term. She was a bit more risque than those that came before her, but she also had many contemporaries who could compete for that title as well.

Answer to the above query[edit]

There were more Top Models(in Popularity?? then not) even before Shoba De arrived on the scene (60's),and those days models were not as popular as they are today.Shobha De became more popular only after she started writing Novels.Even before that when she was in Star Dust (70's) she was/nt that popular.Popularity in the sense,being a household name in India,(upper and upper middle class),not only in Mumbai adworld and Bollywood.

judgemental?[edit]

"Although she initially gained recognition for her status as a rebel her writings currently sound matronly and even somewhat prudish. She often voices her dissatisfaction with the behavior and morals of the current generation, although she in large part can be held responsible for the speeding up of the pace and promotion of the sexual revolution in India with her sensuous novels and "Western" outlook." i thought wikipedia presents facts...this seems more like a personal opinion by someone who probably got offended by her material. The sentence " her writings currently sound matronly and even somewhat prudish" is not at all required and sounds almost degrading..these kind of statements are all 'a point of view' of just another human being and not credited facts. Picture?[edit]

The picture used is copyrighted. On Wikimedia Commons there is another picture, of lower quality but higher resolution, which is CC-BY-SA and thus freely available. Feminist?[edit]

Deleted mention of her being a feminist as there are no citations to support this claim. Also, even if she is one, which seems unlikely based on her body of work, the phrasing could be more objective.Browndog72 (talk) 13:32, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is one of the most popular and high profile columnists and authors in India, perhaps the most high profile on a regular basis in that she's frequently in the news even when she doesn't have a new book out, yet there's an utter paucity of links to verifiable sources on her profile page. Why? Surely, there are any number of such links out there. Will try to locate them and add them, as well as fill out the profile to be more complete and comprehensive. Hardly any references but tall claims have been made about Shobhaa De.[edit]

I was dismayed to find that this articles has so many claims about Shobhaa De but just one minor reference has been given. This article sounds more like an essay written by an individual with the sole intention of (unjustly) glorifying Shobhaa De. Mentioning Caste[edit]

Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.

Place of birth[edit]

Shobha or Shobhaa?[edit]

Is it intentional that this article spells her name Shobhaa with two As? I just made some edits at Socialite Evenings and all the sources I saw for that spelled it with one A. Should this article be renamed? ~ L 🌸 (talk) 07:04, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
