Newbedfocentric[edit]

The tone and content of this article is too Newbedfocentric. South Coast ≠ New Bedford. Article needs to be rewritten by someone who doesn't think New Bedford is some sort of universal center. Sahasrahla 04:11, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

South Coast vs. SouthCoast[edit]

This may be a minuscule nit to pick, but I think the article should stick with "South Coast" as two words. First and foremost, that's the way most people in Massachusetts know this region -- if you asked the average person to write "South Coast," you'd get two words. It's also the title of the article (although the article could be moved), the link from the navbar (same caveat applies) and the logical corollary with other similar region names: one doesn't, after all, speak of "SouthShore" and "SouthCounty" (i.e., southern Worcester County).

There's a strong argument that the term originated, or at least was most heavily championed, by the Standard-Times newspaper, and it's true that that newspaper now spells SouthCoast as one word (although it's not clear whether it always did). Yet a Google search shows that some Web sites prefer the two-word spelling, and that it's the spelling preferred by the state's largest newspaper and the governor's office.
