Merging articles[edit]

Two articles (this one: Spectacled salamander, discussing Salamandrina terdigitata, and the article "Salamandrina perspicillata," discussing the species it names), ought to be condensed or combined. These were for a long time considered the same species, but were separated by DNA analysis as genetically distinct; however, their characteristics, habitat, behavior, etc. are identical, and scientific literature refers to them both as "The Spectacled Salamander." I recommend having one article, titled "The Spectacled Salamander," which discusses the characteristics of the salamander and also makes it clear that there are two genetically distinct species with different scientific names, but that they outwardly function as a northern and southern version of the same species. I can edit this article to suit this change but do not know how to then recommend that the second article (linked below) be removed as extraneous.

@Wildlandfire2023 if you wish to propose a merger you need to gain consensus. See Wikipedia:Merging, and you probably want to reference this. Cheers. YorkshireExpat (talk) 19:32, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
