Requested move 27 September 2015[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Unfortunately this has been listed for a month now and we are at a stalemate despite multiple relistings and dropping a note at the relevant WikiProject. No prejudice against a short turnaround before a new nomination. Jenks24 (talk) 12:36, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tai, RiversTai (local government area) – Numerous reliable sources have refererred to this place as Tai local government area or Tai (local government area), hardly ever read where it has been called Tai, Rivers. Here are some instances where Tai local government area has been mentioned; 1, 2, 3 and more. Stanleytux (talk) 11:10, 27 September 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. • Oppose this is not the only local government with an article called "Tai". Suggest Tai, Nigeria instead -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 03:15, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • comment You forgot to give us a link to other Tai local government area, please clarify. Stanleytux (talk) 12:02, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
      • No, I already provided the link. Read the destination page for all local levels of government called "Tai" -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 01:26, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
        • There's no page on the English wiki with the titles Tai local government area or Tai (local government area), all that is listed on the Tai Dab are a couple of villages and a city. If you can give us a direct link to that page that will really help. Stanleytux (talk) 08:47, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
          • There are villages and cities, which are local governments, which makes your proposed title ambiguous, therefore it fails WP:PRECISE because the disambiguator can be used to describe multiple topics of the same name. -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 00:18, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
            • FYI, WP:PRECISE is totally irrelevant in this discussion, since no other page has the suggested title Tai (local government area). Note that there's "local government area" and not local government. In any case, local governments are usually not considered ambiguous when used with a particular place name, for example Scottish local government or English local government. The relevant guideline that applies here is WP:COMMONTERM which states that "Wikipedia generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in reliable English-language sources) as such names will usually best fit criteria such as recognizability and naturalness." In scotland for example, council areas are used in place of local government areas. Here are some examples Highland (council area), Stirling (council area), Falkirk (council area) and more. If we are to go with your reasoning, those pages will not have those titles council area since there are many things that can be referred to with the term "council areas". The same thing applies with pages that have been differentiated with the term city such as Panama City or Tai (city) where the term "City" (use your reasoning) will be ambiguous. Stanleytux (talk) 07:14, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
              • "Panama City" falls under WP:PRIMARYTOPIC so though it is ambiguous, it is considered primary. "Tai (city)" doesn't show ambiguity as there are no other cities with articles. However, all towns, villages, cities, are local governments, and there are multiple "Tai" topics that are local governments, so the proposed title is ambiguous. That is why it fails PRECISE. The disambiguator can be used for other topics on the disambiguation page. If those council areas were using "local government area" they would also be ambiguous with other regions of the world. But they are using "council area" instead. -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 00:03, 3 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
                • Tai (local government area) or Tai local government area is simply referring to the local government area Tai. Just as Highland (council area) is referring to the council area Highland. There are no ambiguity in the title any longer as the name of the place has already been mentioned.
