Giovanni Bruno as the "lone survivor"[edit]

The article states in the "introduction" section and in the section titled "Part I: The White Bird" that Giovanni Bruno is the lone survivor of the accident at the mine. This is not true. According to the novel around 300 men were working the night shift--approx 200 escaped after the blast and 97 died. Bruno was the last survivor found. He had been trapped in a room with 6 other men with only Bruno surviving, making him the "lone survivor" of that small group of trapped men. All the men died with extremely high levels of CO2 in their blood and Bruno's level was also so high that the doctor at the hospital couldn't understand how he survived, leading the press to claim his recovery was miraculous. THIS is what sets in motion the formation of the cult of the Brunists.
