Current version: "However, Jo and another boy, Pavel, escape under barbed wire, taking along money that the family had hidden in the toilets along with their valuables." As depicted in the film, however, the money and valuables were not being "hidden" in the latrines but discarded there, by Jewish internees who knew that they would not be allowed to keep their valuables and did not want the German or French authorities to obtain them.
