Why is this novel considered Spanish? Is it because it was first published by Anagrama, a Spanish publisher? If so, one should consider Cien Años de Soledad an Argentinian novel, since it was first published by Ediciones de la Flor in Buenos Aires... Bolaño was a Chilean émigré and considered himself a latinoamericano above all...

This article is badly in need of repair. Spelling and grammar errors abound, there's a list of characters that's really pretty irrelevant (unless someone decides to try and decode who each character is standing in for), and there isn't even a picture of the book. I would have thought that a book that drew such praise would have a much better article, but I thought wrong.--168.122.108.74 (talk) 18:55, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. There a certainly a lot of fragments in the shoddy character list. --139.11.6.208 (talk) 16:31, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Links to characters vs. real persons[edit]

There has been a very puzzling revert: in the table of characters, the left-side column is for links to fictional characters (e.g. Arturo Belano) whereas the right-side column is for links to real persons (e.g. Octavio Paz). But for a few entries, there was confusion: Octavio Paz was linked twice, both as a fictional character (he's not) and as a real person.

  • So, I edited then them to unlink the left-side Paz (still leaving its right-side link to Paz), and so on.
  • By the way, I also fixed the erroneous "Veronika Volkow" to "Verónica Volkow" (-ca and accented).

My edit[1] has been, er, savagely reverted,[2] demanding a talk page explanation. Well, here it is.

Also, the list is missing a ton of diacritics and this revert has created an "edit conflict" with all the fixes I typed and was about to post. So what I'm going to do is:

  • I'm first going to restore my reverted edit
  • Then I can copy-paste and post my diacritic fixes

After that, if there are still problems, please improve them instead of reverting wholesale like the first time (deleting the fixes to Verónica, etc.) 62.147.8.8 (talk) 23:46, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation. Please consider signing up for an account, as it will help your edits in being well considered. Thanks, ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 23:51, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

two questions[edit]

I thought the savage detectives were the narrators in the middle section also, the sexual exploits of the young Garcia, while not impossible, seem improbable — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.245.17.105 (talk) 20:27, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
