Any relationship[edit]

@Peter Horn: I found no linkage between the modern TLL (1894—2010) to Estienne's Thesaurus linguae latinae (1531).

@N p holmes: Based on your work on the TLL, can you help clarify the origins? Is any of the text from 1531 used in the current project?

I propose that we add a section into this article mentioning the earlier Estienne work from 1531. To write that piece, we should say if the two are linked or not. DutchTreat (talk) 12:10, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Our Thesaurus is completely based on original research and doesn't take over any text from earlier dictionaries. (We do compare existing dictionaries to see if they noticed anything we missed, but only go back as far as Forcellini for that.) We probably have that title, because that's how Karl Halm, the first to try and start the project of an comprehensive Latin dictionary referred to it in a speech to the Philologen-Versammlung in Wien in 1858 (Verhandlungen d. achtzehnten Versammlung dt. Philologen, Schulmänner u. Orientalisten in Wien vom 25. bis 28. September 1858, Wien 1859, S. 6-14).N p holmes (talk) 14:41, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
