Copyright status[edit]

I have deleted the link to the illicit hosting of this British film on Internet Archive. Director Freddie Francis did not die until 2007, so UK copyright subsists until the end of 2077. As a non-US film still under copyright in its country of origin on 1 January 1996, it is protected in the US for 95 years after publication, so to the end of 2062. I'm not arguing about whether this particular film is or isn't in copyright but the date of a film director's death is almost always completely irrelevant to a film's copyright status. The copyright of a film is usually held by a company involved in it's production and/or financing, not an individual and almost never a director (or writer for that matter) unless they financed the film.
