Mlače Creek Valley/Mlače Valley[edit]

I'm not sure the translation 'Mlače Valley' is the most suitable for 'Dolina Mlaškega potoka'. It would be more appropriate if the valley was named 'Mlaška dolina', but it is not. --Eleassar my talk 08:00, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As a valley name, "Mlače Creek Valley" is OK but also unnecessarily redundant. English uses both X Valley and (less often) X River/Creek Valley (cf. Mississippi Valley = Mississippi River Valley, etc.) but tends to prefer the shorter form for simplicity (it's cumbersome to combine River/Creek Valley into the name). The English equivalent needn't be a word-for-word translation from the Slovenian. For example, Slovenian has both Dolina reke Soče and Dolina Soče, but "Soča Valley" is sufficient for both, and both Dolina reke Glinščice and Dolina Glinščice, but "Glinščica Valley" is sufficient for both. The formulation "the valley of X Creek" is also quite common; I think that would be a good solution in this case, to preserve the creek name. Doremo (talk) 08:43, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
