12 June[edit]

A posting on the Telegram messaging service reported that Sergey Goryachev and several other senior officers had been killed on 12 June 2023 by an attack, said to have been by a Storm Shadow missile, by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on positions of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Oblast. He was 52.[1][2]

Proposed title for moving[edit]

Still couldn't get the hang of finding the appropriate colored box for this but if the split is serious, I'm proposing the title be Timeline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (8 June 2023 – 30 September 2023). The next article shall be called Timeline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (1 October 2023 – present). Borgenland (talk) 02:45, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the official split template. Speedy support split for technical reasons, the current version of the article is basically broken as is. We can change the specific bounds of the timeline of each page later if needed. HappyWith (talk) 02:58, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template limit[edit]

We're still one over the template limit, Template:Russo-Ukrainian War navbox doesn't show at the bottom of the article. ChaotıċEnby(talk) 12:41, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dangit, I thought the split had worked. Even if we trim this page and remove a few extraneous sources that I know exist, we'll still be at the very brink of it breaking. How about we shift the bounds back one more month? HappyWith (talk) 15:58, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try cutting back on statements that reflect long term-analysis and not actual events that occurred on the day concerned. Borgenland (talk) 16:13, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did the math - even if we moved the whole September section into the subsequent timeline article, this page would still be well over 100kB readable prose size. There should be no problem with just moving it - I’ll do that as soon as I can edit on my computer, since there doesn’t seem to be any opposition. HappyWith (talk) 16:25, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I made reductions across the page also. Hope I did not take down anything important. Borgenland (talk) 16:54, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
...And, it's moved. This should prevent further technical issues for the foreseeable future. However, I think this article is still massively oversized - it's at 117 kB now, which is well over the limit advised at WP:SIZERULE - so feel free to propose future moves to adjust bounds as needed. @HappyWithWhatYouHaveToBeHappyWith, I suggest that the list be split into 2-month periods: 8 June to 31 July, 1 August to 31 Sept, and 1 Oct to present. – robertsky (talk) 20:26, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should maybe continue this discussion at Talk:Timeline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, since it affects multiple pages. HappyWith (talk) 01:22, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Breakpoints[edit]

Perhaps August 3rd & 4th should be considered as the first breakpoint, and September 21st & 22nd, as the second:

  • The first portion, spanning from June 8th to August 3rd, as pre–breach;
  • The mid–portion, spanning from August 4th to September 21st, as breaching the Surovikin line;
  • The last portion, spanning from September 22nd to the present day, as post–breach.
