Tower may be more recent[edit]

Much of this article could be nonsense. The Tour de Castelluccio may have been built much later than claimed in the article. I haven't found a reliable source that discusses the age of the existing tower.

Graziani (1992) pp. 84-85 includes the Italian text of a Genoese document from 1597 that records the dimensions of two towers on the island - a large and a small tower. The wikipedia article assumes that the small tower, the torretta piccola in the document, is the surviving square tower, the Tour de Castelluccio. This may be an error. The Genoese document doesn't mention the name 'Castelluccio', doesn't specify precisely where the towers were sited and doesn't specify whether they were round or square. But note that in the Genoese documents the modern name 'Parata' for the Sanguinare di Terra is not used.

Cubells et al. (2007) p. 31 state that the Tour de Castellucio is first attested in 1770. Cubells et al. is written for children but the book includes pictures of original documents and even a cross section of the large round Genoese tower before it was demolished in the 19th century to build the lighthouse (p. 75)

In 2015 an information panel at the Tour Parata states that the square Castelluccio tower is more recent than the Genoese tower that was replaced by the lighthouse - without giving dates: La tour carrée de Castelluciu est quant à elle plus récente.

However both a large and a small tower are indicated on the Île Grande Sanguinaire on the 16th century Genoese map that is reproduced in Cubells et al. (2007) page 71. Aa77zz (talk) 08:03, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
