  • Error in the name: Nish not Nissa

I am afraid this must an example of bad translation. The 1735-1736 Ottoman-Russian-Austrian War finished by the signature of Treaty of Belgrade by Austria and Ottomans first at 18th September 1739 and then by Russia at 3rd October 1736 after Ottoman-Russian negotiations conducted at Nish, present day Serbia and not at Nissa (definitely NOT somewhere in the middle of Anatolian Cappadocia). Exactly.Nissa was an ancient Roman town (which was in ruins) in central Anatolia, near Nevşehir. It is far from capital İstanbul. It is even further from the battle front which was mostly in Moldovia . (Approximatelly 600 km. and 1000 km. bird's flight respectiverly.) Why on the Earth, did the diplomats choose this particular desperate location as their meeting point. Obviously the name of this article is in error. The name should be (as Noyder suggests) Treaty of Niš. I'll ask Peterlin and Fastifex for their remarks. Then we'll consider changing the name. Unfortunatelly, I got no response from the editors. But I 've found sources.[2] and [3]. The name of the treaty is definitely Niš. (or Niş if you like). This a Serbian city. I apologize for a belated reply. Although it is quite a while since I edited this article, I was (completely unaware of another Nissa in Anatolia) thinking of Nissa and Niš as synonims. In my defense I can only remark that the Merriam Webster's Geographical Dictionary (ISBN 0-87779-546-0) also claims on p. 831: Nissa. See Niš. Other than that, I do not consider myself an expert on this subject and agree with all the changes made. --Peterlin (talk) 12:54, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Treaty and the war it refers to and required rewrite[edit]

The English Wikipedia is basically flawed when it comes to the war related to this treaty and the Treaty of Belgarde. There was a secret treaty between Russia and Austria and they both attacked Ottoman Empire and the Russian-Austrian-Ottoman War (1735-1739) started. The Russians and Austrians fought at separate fronts but it was a single war, especially true if one looks from the Ottoman viewpoint. The German Wikipedia in the article named de:Russisch-Österreichischer_Türkenkrieg_(1736-1739) explains in detail this three-sided war and gives a proper background to the Treaty of Belgrade and the Treaty of Niš. Unfortunately, the English Wikipedia is seriously flawed, misleading and misinformative. This arose because some person tied every topic related to this three-sided war to the article named Russo-Turkish War, 1735-1739. Unfortunately, that article does not meet the Wikipedia standards and only looks at partially to the Russian part of the war and with a very biased Russian point of view. It looks at Ottomans only from that blinkered view and ignores totally the Austrian side of the war. I have a suspicion that because of this biased approach this article made a big big error-of-fact and put the final treaty at Nissa, middle of Anatolia. I propose rewriting in the English Wikipedia, proper informative and unbiased articles about this three-sided war using the German Wikipedia article as the base and about the peace treaties associated with it.
