Pan and tilt heads[edit]

I've just reworked this section. I've added other names, and changed some of the statements:

Pan and tilt heads are not suitable for panoramas unless parallax is not an issue. The axes of rotation are in the wrong place.
The article stated that the heads can rotate in 3, 4 or 5 axes. I don't understand this statement, but I'm sure it's wrong. If anybody can explain, I'd be interested.

There are panheads on the market that offer independent rotation around more than three axes (eg, two independent vertical axis rotation points).
There are lots of situations where panoramas can be made regardless of a little parallax. This edit sounds like you can never use a panhead to make a pano, which is obviously misleading; people do it every day. It would be better to simply raise the possible concerns of using a panhead to generate a pano.

Please do not revert edits without very good reason. This is the beginning of an Edit war. Apart from your claims above, you have also reintroduced grammatical and technical errors (a pan and tilt head doesn't move along axes: it rotates around them).

It is also very clear that most pan and tilt heads do not rotate about 4 or 5 axes. I've never seen one. If you know of one, please supply details. And yes, you can be lucky and get good panoramas using this kind of head. That's what I said. In many cases you can also get good panoramas without any support at all.

Finally, please don't disparage my ability. It's impolite and, in this case, incorrect. I have made many panoramas with this kind of head. That doesn't make it a good tool. Groogle (talk) 23:44, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
