Miscarriages[edit]

I deleted the information about Soares' wife having had two miscarriages. Apart from the ick factor, I don't think this information is terribly relevant for a bio article about him. Not every bio article needs to mention how many times a person's spouse has been pregnant and/or miscarried unless it somehow is otherwise significant. • I am not at all sure why anyone would class such as an "ick factor". Family is very important to some people, and if a miscarriage is late term it wll often be after the child has been given a name and in other ways is very impactful on an individual. Beyond this, articles in general follow sourcing, so if sources mention the miscarriages deleting them smacks of censorship.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:13, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion banner is not correct[edit]

The deletion notice is incorrect and not considered proper. The announcement of him being made a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was made in a very public way, as seen here:

https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2018/04/solemn-assembly?lang=eng

This was broadcast live on Youtube, smartphone apps, Internet and over-the-air radio and TV . Media coverage of the matter was quick and likely voluminous, starting first with the local media in Salt Lake and then elsewhere as others learned of it through media sources. There is much out there on this, and social media trended briefly with the name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A601:690:8200:3442:356C:9115:1965 (talk) 19:04, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wall Street Journal Article[edit]

This [1] Wall Street Journal article showed up in my google news feed on Soares (yes, I have a google news feed on Soares to keep up on all coverage of him). Since the Wall Street Jorunal is behind a paywall, I can only see the first paragraph which has no mention of Soares, or even one of the four countries he has spent the most time in (Brazil, US, Portugal and South Africa, although when he was in South Africa he oversaw the LDS Church in about 20 nations, although he was only there I believe a year, and some of those countries the Church has little presence in, so I am not sure he traveled to all of them, but he would have both traveled to and regularly interfaced with LDS Church leaders and maybe government and public figures in other countries besides South Africa. I can not say how substantial the mention of Soares is, or wheather it even more than briefly mentions his call, as opposed to giving his background in various lenths of depth. For example some might say "Soares is the first native of Brazil called as an LDS apostle", other would say "Soares, a native of Brazil, who served his mission there, and lived most of his adult life prior to his call as a general authority in 2005 there, also served as a mission president in Portugal, and was in the area presidency over the Africa South East Area, meaning he was resident in South Africa but supervised the Church in about 20 nations spread from Ethipia to Camerron and including Madagascar and other islnads in the south Indian Ocean." Also, while we have articles that mention Soares worked for various multi-national corporations before he became a full-time employee of the LDS Church first as an auditor and then head of all temproal affairs (Church welfare, the whole process of building new chapels including that of finding and hiring contractors etc., distribution of manuals used in Church meetings, and so on), I do not believe I have yet seen an article that tells what these companies were. If someone could find material from the Church News when he was first called in 2005 it may include a time line that might name his specific employers and give time frames of employment.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:24, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Updated Church MOS vs. Wikipedia LDS MOS[edit]

Hello again, everyone! As outlined here, there is a big difference between the updated MOS from the Church and Wikipedia's manual of style relating to articles about the Church. That said, both of those manuals of style are in agreement on one point: The full name of the Church should be used in the first reference thereunton in each article about Church-related topics. After that, abbreviations remain acceptable. Therefore, it is inappropriate for any Wikipedia user to try and incorporate the full name of the Church on every mention thereunto in every article about Church-related subjects, as has been done on this page a few times lately. Post any questions on this on the talk page to which I linked above. Thank you. --Jgstokes (talk) 18:56, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
