Pre-standard broadband[edit]

UB offered a proprietary 5-megabit technology before the standardization of 10broad36; I don't think it had a name outside of the Net/One product line. We operated this at UVM in the late 1980s over the campus cable TV plant; equipment in the various data centers was connected to local 10base5 Ethernet segments, and a UB-supplied "buffered repeater" would rebroadcast the Ethernet packets over the broadband system at the slower data rate. I don't recall how packets got from the uplink channel to the downlink channel, but presumably there had to be equipment in the cable headend to do it. 2001:470:1F06:CCB:0:0:0:2 (talk) 22:01, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
