Template:Regions of Portugal: statistical (NUTS3) subregions and intercommunal entities are confused; they are not the same in all regions, and should be sublisted separately in each region: intermunicipal entities are sometimes larger and split by subregions (e.g. the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon has two subregions), some intercommunal entities are containing only parts of subregions. All subregions should be listed explicitly and not assume they are only intermunicipal entities (which accessorily are not statistic subdivisions but real administrative entities, so they should be listed below, probably using a smaller font: we can safely eliminate the subgrouping by type of intermunicipal entity from this box).

The law which instituted the Academy in 1837 also provided for the existence of several associated departments, apart from those brought in with the Academy of Maritime and Trade Affairs. This was the case of the Astronomical Observatory (Observatório Astronómico), as well as the Natural History Department, the Machinery Department, the Chemistry Laboratory, the Metallurgical Workshop, and the Botanical Garden.

A Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto (FCUP) é uma das mais antigas e maiores unidades orgânicas da Universidade do Porto. As suas origens remontam a 1762 com a criação da “Aula Náutica”. Foi em 1911 que a Academia Politécnica deu origem à Faculdade de Ciências criando-se a Universidade do Porto.

While it is possible to point the university's predecessors as the Nautical Academy, established by King Joseph I in 1762, and the Drawing and Sketching Academy, created by Queen Mary I in 1779, the university was to be based primarily on higher education institutions created in the nineteenth century, namely the Polytechnic Academy (1836-1911) and Medical-Surgical Academy of Porto (1836-1911)
