Description of Map[edit]

I added the translated description of the map into the thumb-pic. Neftchi (talk) 11:12, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

here and here are the russian and Persian text of Turkmenchay treaty. As it can be seen, there is nothing in the name of Azerbaijan devision.Aliwiki (talk) 17:57, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To Aliwiki: It is obvious that no country approves the independence of a territory which the country considers its own. The texts you posted state Azerbaijan and Georgia as territories which belong to the empires. However, it does not mean that there never existed Azerbaijan or Georgia. Secondly, this article is not about historical facts, but it is about the term widely used in the Republic of Azerbaijan and in the mostly Azerbaijani populated modern northern Iran. --Kheo17 (talk) 21:04, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in the beginning of the article it is written "Whole Azerbaijan is an irredentist Azerbaijani concept that propagates the political union of territories currently inhabited by Azerbaijanis or historically controlled by them." This needs to be rephrased because it is not true that the territory of the Republic of Armenia was historically controlled by Azerbaijanis.--Davo88 (talk) 04:00, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is exactly truth as the territory of the contemporary republic of Armenia was once controlled by the Irevan khanate. 213.172.93.89 (talk) 15:31, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please see History of the name Azerbaijan. The today so called Republic of Azerbaijan was never called by this name before soviet union era, and for political reasons, this name was given to this land. Let's imagine that now president of China, for political reasons, is changing the name of a province near the India's boundry and gives the nam eof India to this province;Next year, a revolution in China will cause this country to be seperated to several indipendant states, including this small republic of India; At this time, can I write an article in the name of whole India starting with "Whole India is an irredentist Indian concept that propagates the political union of territories currently inhabited by Azerbaijanis or historically controlled by them. In the text of Turkmenchay treaty, there is nothing about division of Azerbaijan. If you don't know Persian or Russian, I suggest to use google translate and read the text of treaty. --Aliwiki (talk) 16:30, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The soviet era began in 1920. The territory was already officially called Azerbaijan in 1918. So, I doubt that you follow a reliable source. Second, in 1864, the Royal Geographical society wrote: "The country known to the Persians as Azerbaijan and Russia, the latter Power possessing about five-ei may be roughly stated to cover an area of about 80 the size of Great Britain; 50,000 square miles are the the division belonging to Eussia, and 30,000 of that The Eussian division is bounded on the north and no of Caucasus, extending to the vicinity of Bakou on it has the provinces of Imeritia, Mingrelia, Goo belonging to Eussia) ; on the east it has the Caspian boundary is marked by the course of the Eiver Arrass parallel of longitude, thence by a conventional line a to the district of Talish, and by the small stream of Caspian through the latter country. In this area are territorial divisions :?Georgia or Goorjistan, compr Somekhetty, Kasakh; the Mohammedan countries Karabagh, Ghenja, Shirwan, Shekky, Shamachy, e latter country. In this area are territorial divisions :?Georgia or Goorjistan, compr Somekhetty, Kasakh; the Mohammedan countries Karabagh, Ghenja, Shirwan, Shekky, Shamachy, Bakou" 213.172.93.89 (talk) 07:30, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So you're using a WP:PRIMARY source that also claims all the territory of modern-day Georgia (Imeretia, Mingrelia) as part of "Azerbaijan"? Just want to know. --Qahramani44 (talk) 00:17, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. 213.172.93.89 (talk) 06:42, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
and it is not the main point, by the way. 213.172.93.89 (talk) 15:31, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Turkey[edit]

Judging from the map it looks like there are territorial claims in Turkey as well, how come it's not included in the article? --George Spurlin (talk) 09:37, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring[edit]

Looking deeper in the history of this article, it becomes aparrent there is slow edit war going between User:Parishan and User:Qahramani44 one one side and with User:Cengizsogutlu on the other side. 1, 2, 3, 4.

Edit warring is disruptive to Wikipedia. Why don't you all ask for peaceful options like Third opinion, Requests for comment or Dispute resolution noticeboard instead?. Cheers --Armatura (talk) 13:39, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The issue has already been dealt with by the admins. This was not a "slow edit war", this was about a specific user engaging in POV-pushing and OR on this and other articles and ending up being topic-banned for precisely this behaviour. I had left a message on their talkpage earlier inviting them to quote the sources they had cited (being familiar with them, I knew for a fact that no such information was contained in them but I still gave Cengizsogutlu a chance) but they used very strong language to let me know that they had no such intention, yet insisted on reverting the page. I brought the issue up at ANI. This, among other things, resulted in Cengizsogutlu's topic ban. Hence one needs to exercise caution before reverting the page back to that version.
