Template:Attribution repair/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Generates a statement for repair of insufficient attribution, given an article title and optional lang code.

Usage[edit]

{{Attribution repair|Article title}}
{{Attribution repair|Título del artículo|es}}
{{Attribution repair|Titre de l'article|fr|timestamp string}}

When[edit]

This template is designed to be used when repairing insufficient attribution, when an editor has copied or translated content from another Wikipedia page, foreign Wikipedia, or other Wikimedia project page, and saved the edit without having included a proper copy- or translation attribution statement in the edit summary, as required by the Terms of use. The lack of attribution can be remedied after the initial edit was saved, as explained at WP:RIA.

Where[edit]

The text generated by this template is destined for the edit summary field, so it appears irrevocably in the revision history of the page. Templates are not expanded in the edit summary field, so you can't use it there directly. Instead, use your sandbox, or Special:ExpandTemplates, or another test page to expand the template, and then paste from there into the edit summary of the article needing attribution repair, using a dummy edit so the summary will be saved.

Parameters[edit]

One required parameter, and two optional parameters:

  • |1= title of the page from which content was copied (alias: |title=; required; no default)
  • |2= Wikipedia lang code, from table (alias |lang=; optional; default: en)
  • |3= timestamp of edit lacking required attribution (alias |ts=; optional and recommended; no default)
